Mumbai: Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, 92, was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday after suffering a cardiac arrest. According to hospital authorities, she is currently undergoing treatment in the Emergency Medical Services unit.
Dr. Pratit Samdani confirmed that the veteran singer was brought in following the medical emergency on April 11. No official statement has been issued by her family, and further updates on her condition are awaited.
Bhosle, who will turn 93 on September 8, 2026, is celebrated for iconic songs such as “Piya Tu Ab To Aaja,” “Jaiye Aap Kahan Jayenge,” “Rangeela Re,” and “Sharara Sharara.” Her illustrious career spans decades, marked by versatility across genres from ghazals to cabaret numbers.
She collaborated with renowned composers like OP Nayyar, RD Burman, and AR Rahman, delivering timeless hits including “Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko” and “Tanha Tanha.”
In the 1990s and early 2000s, she reinvented her style with pop-infused tracks and Indipop successes.
A recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Padma Vibhushan, Bhosle also won two National Film Awards for her work in Umrao Jaan and Ijaazat, cementing her legacy in Indian music.
