India cricketer Virat Kohli’s Instagram account was restored early Friday after briefly vanishing from the platform overnight on January 30, triggering confusion and concern among fans worldwide.
Kohli, one of the most-followed sportspersons globally, was suddenly untraceable on Instagram late Thursday night, setting off widespread speculation about the reason behind the disappearance. The uncertainty deepened when users noticed that his brother Vikas Kohli’s Instagram account had also been deactivated around the same time.
While Virat Kohli’s verified account resurfaced at around 8:30 am on Friday, Vikas Kohli’s profile remained inactive at the time of reporting. Neither Kohli, his management team, nor Instagram has issued an official statement clarifying whether the incident was intentional or caused by a technical issue.
The temporary blackout sparked a frenzy across social media platforms, with fans expressing reactions ranging from genuine worry to light-hearted disbelief. Many tagged Instagram’s official handle, seeking an explanation for the missing account.
Some fans even took to actor Anushka Sharma’s Instagram page, leaving humorous comments such as, “Bhaabhi, bhaiya ka account kahan gaya?”—loosely translating to, “Where has brother’s account gone?”
As speculation intensified, memes quickly flooded timelines. Several users linked Kohli’s Instagram disappearance to the recently viral “missing penguin” trend, which had earlier dominated social media. Jokes suggested that 2026 was becoming a year of unexplained online vanishings, pairing screenshots of Kohli’s unavailable profile with images of the penguin to imply that both had mysteriously “walked off the internet.”
Although Kohli’s account is now back online, the sudden disappearance remains unexplained, leaving fans amused, puzzled and still searching for answers.
