US President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday announced that his campaign manager, Susie Wiles, will be his White House chief of staff. Wiles, 67, will become the first woman to hold the position in the US history.
Wiles, who amassed outsized influence as one of Trump’s two 2024 campaign managers, will be the first woman to ever hold the title of White House chief of staff. Many have credited the professionalization of the most recent Trump campaign to Wiles’ leadership.
“Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected,” Donald Trump said in a statement.
Who is Susie Wiles?
Susie Wiles is broadly recognised, both within Donald Trump’s circle and beyond, for orchestrating his most disciplined and effectively managed campaign to date, establishing her as a top candidate for the chief of staff role.
Born on May 14, 1957, the daughter of NFL player and sportscaster Pat Summerall, Wiles worked in the Washington office of New York Rep. Jack Kemp in the 1970s. Following that were stints on Ronald Reagan’s campaign and in his White House as a scheduler.
A long-time Florida-based political strategist, she has previously worked on Ronald Reagan’s 1980 presidential campaign and helped Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis win the election in 2018.
Early in her career, she also worked for Republican US representatives Jack Kemp and Tillie Fowler.
