Mumbai: Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma have officially parted ways after being granted a divorce by the Bandra Family Court on Thursday. The couple, who filed for divorce by mutual consent, were present at the court as the decree was passed, marking the end of their marriage that began in 2020.
The legal proceedings were expedited following a directive from the Bombay High Court on Wednesday, citing Chahal’s professional commitments with Punjab Kings ahead of the IPL 2025 season.
Chahal, 34, was the first to arrive at the Bandra Family Court, followed by Dhanashree, 28, an hour later. The court accepted their joint petition and issued the divorce decree, bringing an end to their four-year marriage.
A notable aspect of the case was the waiver of the mandatory six-month cooling-off period under Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act, which is generally required before a divorce decree is granted. The couple had been living separately since June 2022 and filed for divorce on February 5, 2025. Given the absence of any chance of reconciliation, their joint plea to waive the waiting period was accepted.
Chahal, who took a break from his pre-season training with Punjab Kings to attend the court proceedings, was seen in Chandigarh earlier, preparing with his team led by Shreyas Iyer. The franchise had secured the star leg-spinner for a massive Rs 18 crore in the IPL 2024 mega auction.
