The anticipation for Coldplay’s return to India has reached a fever pitch, as thousands of fans scrambled to secure tickets for the band’s upcoming concerts in Mumbai.
The Grammy-winning rock band is scheduled to perform three shows in January 2025 as part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour. Originally set for two performances on January 18 and 19, overwhelming demand led Coldplay to add a third show on January 21.
Despite the additional date, many fans were left empty-handed after spending hours in virtual queues. Tickets for all three shows sold out swiftly on BookMyShow, the official ticketing platform. However, disappointed fans quickly noticed that resale platforms were listing tickets at exorbitant prices, with some selling for as much as ₹3 lakh.
Fans expressed frustration over the resale market, where tickets originally priced at ₹35,000 for premium sections like the “Lounge” at DY Patil Stadium were being resold for outrageous amounts. In one extreme case, a seller listed Level 1 tickets for an eye-watering ₹7.7 lakh.
These high markups come despite clear warnings from BookMyShow, which stated that tickets bought through unauthorised platforms would be considered invalid. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), BookMyShow issued a strong statement: “It has come to our attention that unauthorised platforms are listing tickets for Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India, both before and after the official sale. These tickets are invalid. Ticket scalping is illegal in India and punishable by law.”
