As Mumbai witnessed heavy rainfall in the past few weeks leading to flooding in several parts of the city, a video of giant waves spilling into the streets is being shared on social media, claiming that it is the view of Taj Mahal Hotel at the Gateway of India during recent rains.
The video is widely shared with a caption: “Taj Mahal Hotel, Gateway of India, this morning ( A Viral Video).”

We extracted the keyframes of the video and put them through a Reverse Image Search. The search led us to the same video uploaded on YouTube, dated May 19, 2021. It was titled: Most Dangerous Videos of Taute Tufan | Tauktae Cyclone Very Hard Video.
Another YouTube channel shared the same video in 2021 with a similar caption. The video can be seen here.
A similar video, taken from a different angle, was also present on YouTube channel of CNN-News18, dated May 17, 2021.
The Indian Express, dated May 19, 2021, had also carried similar videos of the aftermath of Cyclone Tauktae.
Thus, it is clear that the video in question is OLD and is shared with misleading claims.
