Indian parents throw a gay Hindu wedding, for their son

Date:

Rishi Agarwal, 35, and fiancé Daniel Langdon got married at a golf course in Oakville, Canada. They met in 2011.
Rishi’s family is just like any other traditional Indian family, but they accepted their sons wishes and whole heartedly participated in celebrations. Their son came out as gay in 2004.

Vijay and Sushma Agarwal, the groom’s parents, emigrated from India in the 1970s. They organised the elaborate Hindu wedding rituals for their son.

The two grooms performed all the standard rituals of a traditional wedding. Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code makes sex with persons of the same gender punishable by law in India. This also inhibits the discussion on sexuality in any form.

Once Rishi came out, the couple realised five of their friends’ sons were also gay.
