Subsidised Electricity To Be Optional In Delhi From October 1

Date:

New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday announced that subsidised electricity will be given only to those who ask for it. The new rule will be implemented in the national capital from October 1.

CM Arvind Kejriwal in a press conference said that “now cheap electricity will be optional in Delhi. From October 1, the Delhi government will provide electricity subsidy to only those who ask for it. We will give options to people whether or not they need electricity subsidy.”

He further added that the work of asking people about subsidised electricity will begin soon.

At present, the consumers get ‘zero’ power bill if they use upto 200 units of electricity and a subsidy of ₹800 on consuming electricity between 201 to 400 units per month.

The Delhi Cabinet has further passed the ‘Delhi Startup Policy’. Under this policy, the youth of Delhi can run a business in Delhi with the help of financial assistance provided by the government.

Talking about the policy he said that “Creating entrepreneurs and business leaders out of our youth is a subject very close to my heart. Our youth has tremendous potential. Given the right opportunities, they can compete with anyone in the world. Not just India, we will see Delhi become the startup destination of the world,”.

The government is all set to provide financial help to such startups in the form of “collateral-free loans”. The government will further form a panel of agencies and experts to provide free help to the new start-ups in trademark registrations and fulfilling other related formalities.

Further, the government has decided to extend the bandwidth of the Business Blaster program from schools to colleges so that the students can work on their ideas.

According to Kejriwal, students of state-run institutes can take off for 1-2 years to focus on a business.

He further added, “The 20-member task force, having a government officer, academics, and business and trade representatives, will decide on registration applications from start-ups,”.
