USISPF Hosts Annual Leadership Summit; Highlights Bilateral Ties, Technological Advancements

Washington DC: The VII Annual Leadership Summit of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) commenced in Washington on Monday, heralding the first major US-India dialogue post-Lok Sabha elections.

Focused on critical and emerging technology initiatives, strengthening US-India supply chains, and fostering bilateral relationships, the summit convened a prominent gathering of policymakers, business leaders, political figures, and senior officials from both nations. Key speakers included Republican Senators Steve Daines (R-MT) and Dan Sullivan (R-AK), alongside senior White House officials Neera Tanden and Jonathan Finer, who addressed the attendees.

“The USISPF’s Annual Leadership Summit serves as a crucial platform for advancing dialogue and cooperation between the United States and India,” USISPF stated in a press release. Discussions centered on the iCET initiative, enhancing Indo-Pacific security with the Quad alliance, and bolstering commercial ties between the two nations.

Over 300 business and political leaders, including USISPF board members such as Arvind Krishna of IBM, Purna Saggurti from Bank of America, and ambassadors Tim Roemer and Sripriya Ranganathan, participated in the summit. A notable highlight was the presentation of the 2024 Global Leadership Award to Henry R. Kravis, Co-Founder and Co-Executive Chairman of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Co. L.P (KKR), in recognition of his steadfast commitment to strengthening US-India relations.

“Henry Kravis has been a visionary leader who recognized India’s potential early on, guiding KKR to become one of the largest investors in the country,” John Chambers, Chairman of USISPF, said. “His contributions have significantly shaped our shared economic aspirations.”

During the summit, Neera Tanden, a top White House official hailed the role of Indian Americans in building and strengthening the relationship between India and the US.

Tanden, the Domestic Policy Advisor to President Joe Biden, said this in her fireside chat with former US Ambassador to India Tim Roemer said, “I really do believe it is the diaspora that has played a huge role in building this relationship to where it is today. Business leaders that have gone back and forth, have played a huge role. Even in times where … which is not today, in past moments where there have been fraught tensions between the United States and India, or suspicion or concern, it’s the people (who have helped improve this relationship)”.

The USISPF summit in past hosted notable figures including former Vice President Mike Pence, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, former Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, and former Senior Advisor to President Trump Jared Kushner. The forum’s previous milestone included the historic visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Washington, DC, in June 2023.

As the summit concluded, Mukesh Aghi, President and CEO of USISPF, reiterated, “Henry Kravis’ leadership exemplifies the depth of US-India economic cooperation. His advocacy for bilateral investments underscores our shared commitment to advancing prosperity and innovation.”
