Obama campaigns with Hillary Clinton certifying her as ‘Steady’ and ‘true’

Date:

Obama gives Clinton a key character reference after the FBI director blasted her on an issue that has been a cloud over her campaign for more than a year: her use of a private email server while serving as Obama’s secretary of State.

Director James Comey announced Tuesday morning that, while Clinton and her staff had been “extremely careless” in their handling of classified information, his recommendation was that Clinton should not face criminal charges.

I could talk about Hillary’s grit, determination, and intelligence all day, but I want to make one final point: she’s also fun to work with! We may have been opponents back in 2008, but when I asked her to serve as secretary of state, she stepped up, and over the past 8 years we’ve become good friends as well as allies. She’s always willing to hear anyone out and find common ground. That’s why she’s been able to get so much done over the years (and why you see Republicans saying nice things about her, when it isn’t a campaign year). I know she has what it takes not just to lead this country, but to move us forward. I’m looking forward to seeing everything that she accomplishes as our next president, and seeing the effect her presidency will have on the next generation of young women, like my own daughters, who will know that anything they dream of being, they can be. So let’s get to work. See you out on the trail. -bo

Hillary Clinton could have seen her presidential candidacy doomed this morning. President Obama was let loose on the 2016 campaign trail for the first time Tuesday, giving Hillary Clinton the detailed and enthusiastic character testimonial her campaign hopes will unite the Democratic Party before its convention in Philadelphia later this month.

I came down to Charlotte today because I believe in Hillary, and I’m asking you to have her back in November. This election isn’t really a choice between left and right or Democrat and Republican. This is a choice between whether we’re going to cling to some imaginary past or move into the future. This is about whether we have an America that works for everybody, or just those at the top. Hillary’s been fighting this fight for years—fighting for working families and kids, and fighting to make sure everybody in this country has a fair shot. (And she’s got the scars to prove it!) She believes that America’s future is ours to shape, and she’s got what it takes to lead us forward. She understands that we make our own destiny, and we’re always strongest when we stand together. I couldn’t agree more. And that’s why I’m with her. -bo

Obama appeared onstage with Clinton in Charlotte after lending her a ride from Washington on Air Force One and sought to confer his popularity on a candidate still struggling to gain voters’ trust.

In addition to  that President Obama highlighted the unique political charisma that helped everyone possible.  Obama insisted that, the four years Clinton served as his top diplomat as evidence of her tough-nosed grit. He also acknowledged that he became a loyal Clinton convert years ago, and that his 2008 Democratic primary fight against his friend is all in the past.

Obama released a video as the two jetted south on Air Force One for the event that focused on Clinton’s character. The president was quoted saying:
“Not only did she impress me during the campaign, but she frankly really impressed me in terms of how she handled the loss of that primary. She was a trooper,”
He said of their 2008 Democratic presidential race, which Obama won narrowly.
According to the report, while wrapping up his speech, Obama openly said
“Let me blunt,” he said. “Hillary’s got her share of critics.” But he chalked it up to her experience: “That’s what happens when you’re somebody who’s actually in the arena. That’s what happens when you fight for what you believe in.”
The report also said that, Obama addressed the people by advising at the last , that  voters opt for an unproven quantity just because it’s new, a phenomenon he acknowledged boosted his credentials.. But people don’t apply that logic to judging airline pilots or surgeons, Obama argued, and they shouldn’t in the voting booth too.

Some people in the crowd who had voted for Obama in the 2008 primary said afterward the president’s speech made it that much easier to back Clinton in 2016.
