Beijing: Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, Iran has renewed its push for a comprehensive diplomatic settlement, with Foreign Minister Syed Abbas Araghchi stressing in Beijing that Tehran will only accept a “fair and comprehensive agreement” to end the ongoing conflict.
The remarks came during his meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday, as regional powers step up efforts to contain the crisis.
“We will only accept a fair and comprehensive agreement,” Araghchi said in his interaction, according to ISNA.
During the talks in Beijing, Araghchi welcomed China’s stance, particularly its criticism of the United States and Israel. He described China as a close friend of Iran and said cooperation between the two countries would deepen amid the current geopolitical situation.
“The war that has been launched against us is a blatant act of aggression and a clear violation of international law. We will do our utmost to protect our legitimate rights and interests in the negotiations,” he said.
On the Chinese side, Wang Yi called for an immediate halt to hostilities in West Asia and stressed the urgency of de-escalation.
According to ISNA, Wang Yi said in the meeting: “We are ready to continue our efforts to reduce tensions. Establishing a complete ceasefire is necessary and inevitable.”
He also highlighted the importance of direct engagement between conflicting parties, warning that the region is passing through a critical turning point.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed that the two leaders exchanged views on the worsening geopolitical situation, with a particular focus on the ongoing crisis in West Asia. The talks followed a formal invitation from Wang Yi and were described by Araghchi on Telegram as part of Iran’s “ongoing diplomatic consultations” with global partners.
The Beijing meeting comes after Araghchi’s wider diplomatic tour of Pakistan, Oman, and Russia, aimed at building international support amid rising regional tensions. In St Petersburg, he met Russian President Vladimir Putin, who reaffirmed Moscow’s readiness to support peace efforts and address the “war and aggression” involving the US and Israel.
Separately, Araghchi also held discussions in Muscat on maritime stability in the Strait of Hormuz, calling for coordinated consultations with Oman to ensure safe passage through the vital waterway.
Together, these engagements reflect Tehran’s intensified diplomatic outreach as it seeks strategic alignment and a negotiated resolution to mounting regional conflict.
