The United States has reiterated its call to finalize a ceasefire deal in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need for resolution. Speaking at a press briefing, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller underscored that both the Israeli and Palestinian people are enduring severe hardships due to the conflict and cannot afford further delays.
“It is time to finalize that deal. The people of Israel cannot afford to wait any longer. The Palestinian people, who are also suffering the terrible effects of this war, cannot afford to wait any longer. The world cannot afford to wait any longer,” Miller stated.
He added that the United States will continue to work closely with regional partners to push for a final agreement, stressing that progress has been made in talks but that ultimate success will depend on both sides demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to reach a consensus.
The US also reiterated its demand for justice concerning the recent discovery of the bodies of six hostages, including an Israeli-American, who were found in a Hamas tunnel in Gaza. The hostages were among over 200 individuals taken by Hamas following a deadly cross-border attack on October 7. Miller expressed deep sorrow over the killings and a firm commitment to seeking justice for the victims.
