Explosion Rocks Monaco Residence, Three Injured As Suspect Flees To France

Date:

Three people were seriously injured after an explosive device detonated outside a residential building in Monaco on Monday night, with the suspect fleeing across the border into France, prompting a cross-border manhunt.

The blast occurred around 9 p.m. near Monaco’s border with France, injuring two adults and a child, who were rushed to hospitals in France for treatment, Monaco’s Minister of State Christophe Mirmand said.

Authorities said the attacker escaped on foot into France and was tracked through surveillance cameras in Monaco and the neighbouring French town of Beausoleil. French police have joined the search and are assisting the investigation.

Monaco’s ruler, Prince Albert II, condemned the incident as “an odious act” and said all state services had been mobilised to ensure public safety.

Mirmand said investigators are working to determine the motive behind the attack.

French broadcaster BFM and Ukrainian news outlet Ukrainska Pravda reported that one of the injured was Ukrainian construction magnate Vadym Iermolaiev, along with members of his family.

The investigation is ongoing as French and Monegasque authorities continue their search for the suspect.
