In a shocking act of violence in Bangladesh, a 29-year-old Hindu man was beaten and hacked to death on the night of January 11, raising fresh concerns about the safety of minority communities in Bangladesh.
The victim, identified as Samir Kumar Das, made his living as an auto-rickshaw driver. Authorities found his lifeless, bloodied body near a local hospital. Investigators said that after fatally assaulting Das, the perpetrators stole his battery-operated auto-rickshaw and disappeared, leaving the community reeling.
This killing comes amid a disturbing spike in attacks on minorities in the country. According to the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, December 2025 alone witnessed at least 51 violent incidents targeting Hindu, Buddhist, and Christian communities.
Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) expressed deep concern over the continuing assaults, urging Bangladeshi authorities to act decisively. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized the need for swift and firm measures to prevent such atrocities.
