The Consulate General of India in Seattle hosted the first Baisakhi celebration at the State Capitol in Olympia on April 14.

Washington State Governor Hon’ble Bob Ferguson, Lieutenant Governor Denny Heck and Secretary of State Steve Hobbs attended the event.

This event marks the first such celebration of the festival of Baisakhi at the State Capitol.

State Senators and Legislators from the Washington State Legislature, as well as prominent members of the Sikh community living in Washington, attended the ceremony.

Addressing the distinguished gathering, Governor Bob Ferguson welcomed the contributions of the Indian American Sikh community in the State of Washington and expressed his appreciation for hosting the Baisakhi celebrations at the State Capitol in Olympia.

In a special gesture, the Governor of Washington also issued a special proclamation on the occasion of Baisakhi. In addition, King County (covering 39 cities of the Greater Seattle area), Snohomish County, and the cities of Kent, Auburn, and Marysville also issued special proclamations declaring April 14th as the Baisakhi Day celebration across the Greater Seattle area.Â

It may be noted that a large number of Indian American Sikh community members are residents of the State of Washington, engaged in small and medium enterprises/ businesses, and actively contribute to public service, enriching the State’s cultural and economic diversity.

Some of the community’s eminent leaders were also recognised and felicitated for their positive contributions to the Greater Seattle area.Â
