New Delhi: India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation has issued a public health alert over the sale of two unauthorised cosmetic products allegedly made in Pakistan, Chandni Whitening Cream and Goree Beauty Cream.
The drug regulator has raised concerns over the presence of excessive heavy metals in the creams, stating that the levels go beyond specified limits. It warned that using the products could have toxic effects and pose a serious health risk.
The CDSCO said cosmetic products available to consumers must meet safety requirements and follow regulations under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and the Cosmetics Rules, 2020.
It also stated that cosmetic manufacturing for sale requires a licence from the State Licensing Authority, while imported cosmetics must be registered with the Central Licensing Authority.
In its alert, the CDSCO advised consumers not to purchase or use Goree Beauty Cream Made in Pakistan and Chandni Whitening Cream Made in Pakistan, including similarly named products.
The regulator further urged people to choose authorised cosmetics carrying details such as the manufacturing licence number, manufacturer information, batch number, manufacturing and expiry dates, and registration number for imported products.
