After nearly two months of disruption, India is reopening its international postal corridor with the United States. Starting Wednesday, all categories of mail and parcel services, from EMS and Air Parcels to Registered and Tracked Packets, will once again be accepted for delivery to the US, the Department of Posts announced on Tuesday.

India Post has announced the resumption of all international postal services to the United States from October 15, ending a two-month suspension triggered by changes in U.S. customs regulations.
The halt, imposed on August 22, followed a U.S. Executive Order that withdrew “de minimis” exemptions, requiring all incoming postal shipments to have duties collected upfront. To comply, India Post developed a new Delivery Duty Paid (DDP) system that ensures all customs duties are paid at the time of booking in India and remitted directly to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Under the new model, shipments to the U.S. will attract a flat 50% customs duty on their declared value, but there will be no additional product-specific tariffs. The Ministry of Communications confirmed that postal rates remain unchanged, and no extra fee will be charged for using the DDP process, a move expected to benefit MSMEs, artisans, and e-commerce sellers who rely on India Post for low-cost exports.
All categories of international mail, including EMS, air parcels, registered and tracked packets, will once again be accepted at post offices, international business centres, and Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras.
The department has also directed postal heads to conduct outreach programmes to inform exporters about the new system. Officials said the DDP model will make cross-border deliveries faster, more transparent, and free of hidden charges, helping restore smooth trade with one of India’s key export destinations.
