The first day of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Spain has culminated with the signing of seven agreements across various fields between the two nations.
The delegation-level talks, co-chaired by PM Modi and Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, were held in Madrid. The MoUs signed between the two nations include:
1. Agreement for transfer of sentenced persons
2. MoU on cooperation in Organ Transplantation
3. MoU on Cooperation in Cyber security
4. MoU on Technical Cooperation in Civil Aviation
5. Agreement on visa waiver for holders of diplomatic passports
6. MoU between Foreign Service Institute and Diplomatic Academy of Spain
7. MoU on Cooperation in Renewable Energy
The MoUs signify PM Modi’s emphasis on fostering cooperation between the nations in expanding India’s infrastructure development, especially railways. The MoUs seek to leverage Spain’s more developed skills and expertise in such fields.
He added, “With a mission of promoting my vision of “New India”, this visit will bring a new momentum in the ties of India with Spain by giving fresh impetus to a multifarious relation.”
PM Modi also lauded the economic reforms carried out by the Spanish government under PM Rajoy’s leadership. The Indian PM also emphasized cooperation on security as a means to counter the global terrorism threat that both countries face.
PM Modi also met Spain’s king, His Majesty King Felipe VI.
