An Indian national was killed in an Iranian drone attack on Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday, as tensions between Iran and the United States continued to escalate despite ongoing efforts to maintain a regional ceasefire.
Confirming the incident, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait expressed condolences and said it was coordinating closely with local authorities to assist the victim’s family and those injured in the attack.
“Embassy of India in Kuwait expresses its deepest condolences at the tragic demise of an Indian national due to an attack on the airport in Kuwait today,” the embassy said in a statement posted on X.
The mission added that it was in constant touch with the bereaved family and was working with Kuwaiti authorities to provide all necessary assistance and support.
The attack reportedly caused significant damage to a passenger terminal at Kuwait International Airport. Besides the fatality, several people were injured as Iranian drones struck the airport amid a wider escalation of hostilities in the Gulf region.
According to the US military, multiple drones targeting American forces in Kuwait were intercepted. It also stated that several Iranian missiles launched toward Kuwait broke apart before reaching their targets.
The US further said that joint American and Bahraini defence systems successfully intercepted missiles and drones aimed at Bahrain, which hosts the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet.
In response to the attacks, Washington launched retaliatory strikes on an Iranian military ground control station on Qeshm Island, located in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
Both the United States and Iran have described their recent military actions as retaliatory measures, highlighting the fragile security situation in the region. The latest exchange of attacks has raised concerns about further instability in West Asia and poses a challenge to ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at preserving a ceasefire.
The identity of the deceased Indian national has not yet been made public. Indian authorities are expected to continue monitoring the situation closely as regional tensions remain high.
