Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said India and the Netherlands are working together to build a “trusted, transparent and future-ready” supply chain amid growing global uncertainty, as he highlighted the need for resilient international partnerships during what he termed a “decade of disasters”.
Addressing members of the Indian diaspora in The Hague during his five-nation tour, PM Modi said the world was facing a series of unprecedented crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic, ongoing wars and an escalating energy crisis.
“Today, humanity faces many major challenges as well. The world is dealing with new challenges. First came the Corona pandemic; then wars began to break out, and now there is an energy crisis. This decade is turning into a decade of disasters for the world,” the Prime Minister said.
He warned that unless these global challenges are addressed quickly, decades of development progress could be reversed, pushing millions into poverty.
“If these situations are not changed rapidly, the achievements of the past many decades will be washed away, and a huge section of the world’s population will drown in poverty,” he added.
Against the backdrop of disruptions in global trade and energy supplies, PM Modi stressed the importance of strengthening economic resilience through reliable supply chains and deeper international cooperation.
“In such times, the world is talking about a resilient supply chain, and for that, India and the Netherlands are making endeavours to establish a trusted and transparent future-ready supply chain,” he said.
The remarks come amid increasing global concerns over supply chain disruptions caused by geopolitical tensions, including the ongoing crisis in West Asia and instability around key maritime trade routes.
Highlighting India’s evolving global role, PM Modi described the country as a growing hub of innovation and opportunity while remaining rooted in its civilisational values.
“India in the 21st century is a land of opportunities. India is both technology-driven and humanity-driven. India is becoming as modern as it is ancient,” he said.
The Prime Minister also emphasised the growing strategic, economic and cultural partnership between India and the Netherlands during his interaction with the Indian community.
PM Modi is currently on a five-nation tour from May 15 to 20, covering the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy, aimed at deepening India’s engagement with key global partners across sectors including trade, technology, energy, innovation and green growth.
