Kyiv: Russia launched a missile attack early on Thursday, marking the worst assault on the capital of Ukraine in weeks. At least eight individuals were hurt in the incident, which also caused damage to several residential and commercial structures.
According to reports, loud explosions could be heard in the capital starting at five in the morning, and the air raid alarms ceased at six ten in the morning as Ukrainian air defence systems attempted to repel the onslaught. It’s reportedly the largest attack on the capital of Ukraine in recent weeks. The full scope of the destruction is still unknown.
The Ukrainian Air Force has said that Russia launched a barrage of weapons, including Hypersonic and Ballistic missiles. Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv took to the Telegram messaging app and said that the debris from missiles was brought down by air defence systems that had fallen in different parts of the city causing fires in at least three residential buildings and parking lots.
The Russian forces were advancing with ground strikes at several points along the frontlines spanning more than 600 km at the time of the airstrike. In his speech on Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that his nation requires military assistance to defend itself against Russian missile strikes.
President Zelenskyy in a statement said that Kharkiv needs an adequate number of air defence systems, the Sumy region needs it, the Chernihiv region and all of Ukraine’s regions suffering from Russian terror need it. He added that Ukraine’s partners have these defence systems and they need to understand that these systems protect lives.
Earlier on Wednesday, Zelenskyy hosted White House national security advisor Jake Sullivan for talks in Kyiv. “Sullivan expressed unwavering confidence in the eventual passage of additional military aid for Ukraine despite the blockage in Congress” as per a CNN report. He said that they will get a strong bipartisan vote in the house for an assistance package for Ukraine and they will get that money out of the door and said that he can’t make predictions of when this will be done.
