Oklahoma City: A late-night party near Oklahoma City turned into a scene of chaos and panic after gunfire erupted, leaving at least 10 people injured and triggering a large-scale police response, authorities said.
Officers received multiple reports of shots fired around 9 pm at a gathering of young people near Arcadia Lake, according to Emily Ward. The popular recreational area, usually known for its calm atmosphere, quickly became the focus of an unfolding emergency.
Ward confirmed that at least 10 victims were transported to nearby hospitals by emergency responders, while several others sought medical attention on their own. She noted that those injured were in “various conditions,” though officials have not yet released further details on the severity of the injuries.
Despite the scale of the incident, authorities have not made any arrests so far. Investigators are continuing to piece together what led to the shooting, speaking with victims and witnesses across the metropolitan area. Ward said there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public at this time.
“We’re kind of all over the metro speaking with victims and witnesses,” she said.
Arcadia Lake lies roughly 13 miles north of Oklahoma City and serves as a manmade reservoir primarily used for flood control. It is also a well-known destination for outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, picnicking, and camping, often drawing large crowds, especially during evenings and weekends.
The lake is located in Edmond, a suburb with a population of around 100,000 residents. The shooting has rattled the local community, raising concerns about safety at public gatherings in typically peaceful areas.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to identify those responsible and determine the circumstances surrounding the violence.
