Seoul: The joint military operations between the US and South Korea will begin shortly. According to the combined forces command, the drills will take place from February 24 to April 18.
However, Pyongyang has remained suspicious of the drills, citing them as exercise of war. The command said in the statement,” The UN’s Command has informed the Korean People’s Army in North Korea through their Panmunjom mission about both Key Resolve and Foal Eagle exercise dates and the non-provocative nature of this training”.
Meanwhile, North Korea revoked its invitation to the US to discuss the release of US citizen Kenneth Bae, from North’s labour camp. It is not clear if the decision was made due to plans to go ahead with the drills. It has threatened to cancel the planned family reunion of the two neighbouring sides.
