Germany: An unknown object exploded near a train station in the southern German city of Augsburg in the early hours of Wednesday, police said. Two passersby, aged 17 and 18, sustained minor injuries in the blast.
Bavaria state police said the explosion occurred in a building passageway and added that the injured individuals were two Ukrainian citizens.
Hours later, police said Augsburg’s main train station was closed after another suspicious object was found there.
“Train services have been suspended,” police said on X.
News outlet Bild reported that a hand grenade detonated in front of a jewellery store early in the morning and that the train station itself was apparently not the target.
A police spokesperson said details about the explosive device remained unclear. Augsburg is a regional transport hub located around 55 kilometres (35 miles) northwest of Munich.
