Abu Dhabi: Under the directives of President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the United Arab Emirates has strengthened support for the World Health Organization’s efforts to tackle the Ebola outbreak in Africa through the UAE Aid Agency.
Minister of State Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan said the UAE remains committed to delivering urgent humanitarian assistance to reduce the impact of crises and health emergencies. He emphasized the country’s dedication to working alongside governments, international organizations, and regional institutions to fight diseases and epidemics that threaten communities worldwide.
He added, “The UAE is determined to extend its support in combating diseases and epidemics that threaten humanity anywhere, in coordination with governments, international organizations, and relevant regional institutions.”
The minister highlighted WHO findings showing the serious spread of the Bundibugyo cross-border Ebola strain, stressing the need for stronger international cooperation to prevent further transmission across Africa.
The UAE continues to provide healthcare assistance through medical aid, approved vaccines, essential medicines, and support for treatment centres in partnership with local and international organizations.
Meanwhile, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo remains uncontrolled, citing challenges in isolating and monitoring infected individuals.
