UAE Urges Iraq To Prevent Attacks “Immediately” After Drone Strike

Date:

The United Arab Emirates has urged Iraq to take immediate action to stop attacks allegedly originating from its territory after a drone strike targeted an area near the Barakah nuclear power plant in Abu Dhabi.

In a statement, the UAE foreign ministry called on “Iraq to prevent all hostile acts originating from its territory urgently and without conditions,” stressing the “need to address those threats promptly, immediately and responsibly.”

The demand follows Sunday’s drone attack near the Arab world’s only nuclear power facility. The strike hit an electrical generator close to the Barakah plant, causing a fire. Authorities confirmed there were no injuries or radiation leaks, while two additional drones were intercepted.

Last month, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Jordan jointly urged Baghdad to curb attacks launched by pro-Iran armed groups operating from Iraqi territory.

Iraq has repeatedly faced tensions linked to the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, with attacks targeting both US-linked sites and Iran-backed groups.

An Iraqi security official said Arab countries had provided “only accusations” without clear evidence, adding that Baghdad requires “evidence and precise information so that Iraqi authorities can take the appropriate measures”
