London: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday condemned what he described as a “deeply shocking antisemitic arson attack” after four ambulances belonging to a Jewish volunteer service were set on fire in Golders Green, northwest London.
In a post on X, Starmer said, “My thoughts are with the Jewish community who are waking up this morning to this horrific news. Antisemitism has no place in our society. Anyone with any information must come forward to the police.”
The ambulances, operated by volunteer group Hatzolah Northwest, were found ablaze in the early hours of Monday. CCTV footage released by authorities shows three suspects approaching the vehicles and setting them on fire before fleeing.
The London Fire Brigade responded at about 1:40 a.m. and brought the blaze under control by 3:06 a.m. Officials said cylinders inside the ambulances exploded during the fire, causing damage to nearby buildings, including broken windows in a residential block. No injuries were reported.
Superintendent Sarah Jackson, who is leading the investigation, said police are reviewing CCTV footage and searching for the suspects.
Authorities have increased patrols in the area and urged anyone with information to contact police.
