A 45-year-old Somalia-born British man has been charged in London with the attempted murder of three men following a stabbing attack that police have declared a terrorist incident.
The accused, identified as Essa Suleiman, appeared in court on Friday facing charges including three counts of attempted murder and possession of a bladed weapon in public. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at the Old Bailey on May 15.
According to investigators, Suleiman allegedly targeted two Jewish men in Golders Green, north London, on Wednesday after reportedly attacking another man earlier the same day in south-east London.
The victims in Golders Green, aged 76 and 34, were treated for stab wounds. The younger man has been discharged, while the older victim remains hospitalised in stable condition.
Counter Terrorism Policing London is leading the probe and confirmed links between both incidents. Following the attack, the UK raised its national threat level from substantial to severe.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited the attack site and condemned rising anti-Semitism, while Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood urged public vigilance.
