Ukraine Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has described India’s proposal for a possible truce with Russia as the “most comprehensive” among four initiatives currently being considered by Kyiv.
The other proposals are from the United States, Türkiye and Egypt. Sybiha said India has, for the first time, indicated its willingness to play a role in the peace process.
India’s efforts to support dialogue on the Russia-Ukraine conflict were discussed at a Ministry of External Affairs Consultative Committee meeting on India-Russia relations.
Discussions covered Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which Modi said “endless war must now give way to an end of war”, as well as External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s recent engagements with officials from both countries.
Putin has also said Modi has “very good ideas” for finding mutually acceptable solutions and thanked him for his interest in ending the conflict peacefully.
The committee also reviewed the Chennai-Vladivostok maritime corridor, INSTC and Northern Sea Route, along with energy cooperation and efforts to diversify supplies.
Discussions on trade focused on expanding Indian exports to Russia in automobiles, pharmaceuticals, food, marine products, engineering goods, chemicals and textiles, while progress on an India-Eurasian Economic Union FTA was also reviewed.
Sybiha said Ukraine is considering energy and Black Sea truces, while remaining open to wider ceasefire formats.
