Washington, DC: Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate for the 2024 presidential election.
Taking to X (Formerly Twitter), Harris wrote, “I am proud to announce that I’ve asked Tim Walz to be my running mate. As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he’s delivered for working families like his. It’s great to have him on the team. Now let’s get to work.”

Walz, a 60-year-old US Army National Guard veteran and former teacher, has a diverse political background. Walz was enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard at the age of 17, serving for an impressive 24 years.
Walz’s political career began in 2006 when he won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing a traditionally Republican-leaning district. He served in Congress for 12 years. In 2018, Walz transitioned to state politics by running for Governor of Minnesota. He won the gubernatorial race and was re-elected in 2022.
Harris and Walz will be challenging former President Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance, a fellow military veteran from the Midwest. The Presidential election is set for November 5, 2024.
Earlier, US Vice President Kamala Harris officially secured the Democratic party’s presidential nomination, marking a historic moment as she prepares to face Republican Donald Trump in the November elections.
This came after President Joe Biden quit the presidential race amid mounting concerns over his age, particularly after his poor show in the debate with Donald Trump in June.
