VP C. P. Radhakrishnan To Visit Sri Lanka On First-ever Bilateral Trip

Date:

Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan will undertake a two-day official visit to Sri Lanka from April 19, marking the first bilateral visit by an Indian Vice President to the country, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday.

During the visit, Radhakrishnan is scheduled to call on Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and hold talks with Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, along with other senior leaders and members of the Indian diaspora

The MEA said the visit comes amid a series of recent high-level engagements and is expected to further strengthen the longstanding ties between the two nations. It added that Sri Lanka remains a key partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.

India and Sri Lanka share deep civilisational links spanning over 2,500 years, with cooperation across sectors such as trade, defence, connectivity, education, culture and energy.

Highlighting India’s regional role, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal recently noted that New Delhi continues to support partner countries in meeting their energy needs, including supplying petroleum products to Sri Lanka.

The visit is expected to reinforce people-to-people ties and expand cooperation across multiple sectors, further deepening the India–Sri Lanka partnership.
