X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, was hit by a widespread service disruption on Wednesday, with users across India, Japan, Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom reporting that both the app and website had stopped loading content.
Outage tracking site Downdetector recorded a significant spike in reports from around 8:30 PM IST, with complaints arriving from multiple regions simultaneously. The platform’s website failed to respond across browsers, while the Android and iOS apps were unable to fetch posts or refresh feeds.
No official explanation has been offered by X as of the time of writing. The company has a pattern of staying silent during outages, leaving users to rely on third-party monitoring tools for confirmation.
Wednesday’s disruption is not an isolated incident. X has faced repeated service failures in recent months, including a major outage in November 2025 that lasted close to three hours, and a series of disruptions in March 2025 that Musk attributed publicly to a cyberattack. Whether Wednesday’s failure has a similar cause remains unclear.
Such disruptions on X tend to resolve within one to two hours, based on past incidents. The full scale of Wednesday’s outage is still emerging.
