Karva Chauth is one of the most important festivals of India, followed by all the married women by observing a fast for a complete day, in order to wish for the safety and wellbeing of their beloved husband lives.
It’s a festival which is celebrated with great belief and enthusiasm by the women and when it comes to Bollywood celebrities, it’s no way different.

Kunal Khemu and Soha Ali Khan
This nawabi jodi of Bollywood got married on January 25. This year, it’s going to be Soha’s first Karva Chauth and it seems that the actress is already very excited about it, as she took to micro-blogging site Twitter, to express her happiness with her fans.
Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput
Shahid and Mira’s wedding on July 7 was the much talked wedding for this wear. Mira will be celebrating her first Karva Chauth.
Kunal Kapoor and Naina Bachchan
Kunal and Naina got hitched in a private affair in Seychelles on February 9, followed by a grand reception in Delhi on April 11. It’s going to be Naina’s first Karwa Chauth this year.
Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra
They are the most recent ones to get married, yes as the couple got married on October 29, and this is going to be the very first Karva Chauth for Geeta as well. The couple will throw a lavish reception on November 1 in Delhi.
Arpita Khan and Aayush Sharma
Salman Khan’s little sister Arpita got married with her long time beau Aayush on November 18, last year and this is going to be Arpita’s first Karva Chauth.
So, what exactly is this Karva Chauth?
India is a beautiful melange of different religions, various backgrounds and different faiths and therefore there are different festivals to celebrate the rich cultural heritage.
One of the festivals is Karwa chauth where all the married women fast for the well-being and long lives of their husbands. Every year, on this day women from across the country especially North and North West India keep a day long fast praying for their beloved hubbies. Karwa Chauth or just Chauth as it called in many parts of the country is observed nine days before Diwali.
Not just the wives, sometimes even the adorable husbands fast for their wives to give them company. From fasting all day long to gifting diamond sets or expensive jewellery to even cooking something special for her to break her fast, a lot of doting beaus and husbands do it all to charm their loving partners and wives.
Elaborate celebrations
The preparations of the festival are generally done in advance. The women apply henna in their hands, pick out an outfit in any of the bright bridal colours- generally red or pink and even buy accessories like bangles, earrings etc to match the outfit.
The Rituals
On the Chauth day, women eat sargi at around 4 am which is generally sent by their mother-in-laws. In the evening, the puja is performed with the vrat katha being read out and then offering prayers to the moon. The ladies then, break the fast when their husbands offering them water and feeding them with sweets and dry fruits.
Gifts galore
For many progressive husbands, Karva chauth is also an occasion to pamper their wives. While few choose to buy sarees and sweets for their loving wives, some others even gift expensive diamond rings or sets to express their love for their better halves.
Foodies’ day out
By and large, all festivals in India seem to be incomplete without an array of food items to go with the mood of the festival. Few of the doting mothers-in-law prepare delicious snacks and food items like feni, daal ke pakwan, sewai ki kheer, dahi bhalle, matthi as part of the special menu for the evening. Some couples even prefer a quiet candlelight dinner in a multi-cuisine restaurant.
