A new study published by scientists in journal Nature says, the star closest to the sun, Proxima Centauri hosts a planet that may be very much like Earth.
It lies just 4.2 light-years from our own solar system. This planet, Proxima b, circles in the star’s “habitable zone”. If conditions are right, the planet is in an orbit, in a range of distance, that’s warm enough for liquid water could be stable on its surface.
Astronomers have done extensive research for planets around Proxima Centauri for more 15 years. Two instruments were installed on Telescopes run by the European Southern Observatory in Chile.
The question that Scientists ask now is,” How did Proxima b remain undetected for so long, in an era when astronomers are finding exoplanets thousands of light-years from Earth?”
