AAP MLA Som Dutt put on trial for offence of rioting

AAP MLA Som Dutt, legislator from Sadar Bazar constituency in Delhi, has been put on trial by a Delhi court for the offences of rioting, wrongfully restraining, and assaulting a man during the 2015 assembly election campaign on Wednesday.

The charges against Som Dutt were framed by Metropolitan Magistrate Ruby Neeraj Kumar after he pleaded not guilty and claimed trial. The court has listed the matter for July 27 to record prosecution evidence and issued summons to complainant Sanjeev Rana.

The complainant, Sanjeev Rana, in his FIR had alleged that Som Dutt and his supporters grievously injured him while campaigning in the Gulabi Bagh locality. A cross FIR was also registered against the complainant claiming that it was the complainant who had began quarreling with Som Dutt and his supporters.

If found guilty, the AAP MLA faces a maximum punishment of seven years imprisonment for his offences.
