Milan Fashion Week Fall RTW 2014

Date:

The six-day fashion galore has till now exuded glamour, decadence and even plain crazy. We bring you the top looks offered by some of the biggest names in Fashion.

Prada: The collection first started with a strong 1920’s Berlin presence. With menswear evoking 20th century European charm to women’s black satin knee-length dresses worn with scarlet boots. The collection was avant-garde, carrying into 1970’s decade of colours, oversized coats and glam rock gold. Prada infused the eras to create something viable for now. Highlight: 1920’s Europe; 1970’s retro glamour.

Maxmara: The collection was described as “anglo-Scottish”, with oodles of tweed, bodywarmer and the uniform look. Its inspiration was apparent with the greens, mustard and camel day looks. Maxmara’s idea had more than a hint of the UK about it. The winning silhouette was a knee-length tweed skirt, long chunky knit, bodywarmer and gold Chelsea boots. Highlights: Tweed, skirts.

Fendi: The collection went for technology over tradition, with creative director Karl Lagerfeld’s signature fur in place. For those who don’t want to wear fur: tweed, quilted patent and leather jackets, and multi-coloured camouflage. Others were layered over metallic quilted waistcoats. Most skirts were long, bonded mesh pockets and gauzy pleats added a sporty-meets-romance note, while splashes of salmon pink leavened all the khakis, bottle greens and browns. Highlights: Fur, quilted and camouflaged jackets.

Gucci:  The collection saw a soft palette and design, with a lot of leather and fur. Waistlines high and hemlines short, showing off knee-high leather boots; Suits tight fitting, contrasting with flowing or baggy furs in warm autumnal shades. It had a classic 1960’s French vibe. Short dresses came in a range of colors and one animal print. Highlights: Leather, 1960’s French chic.

Emporio Armani: The collection had tomboyish looks- fur lined coats teamed with broad pinstriped trousers and commando soled flat shoes with the odd flash of sparkle. Rich, dark, lightly checked velvet coats and jackets in burgundy and bottle green saw that famous Armani shoulder set itself in a new direction. Fur-scalped bath caps with gleaming teardrop clips and transparent gem-studded flats. Highlights: Burgundy, velvet coats.

Fall 2014 RTW Trend Report: The collections have all focused on strong aesthetics with an elegant craft. Leather, fur and tweed are the main features with colours dominated by pastels, burgundy, browns and gold’s.
