Eminent citizens protest ‘bad’ transfer for a good job

Date:

New Delhi: Support for Keshav Desiraju against his transfer is growing. The transfer of the Health Secretary in the Union government is against the spirit of the Supreme Court ruling that the tenure of top government officials should be fixed for two years. Eminent citizens have written to the Prime Minister against this transfer. The letter alleged that Desiraju was transferred for opposing the re-entry of corruption-tainted former Medical Council of India president Dr Ketan Desai into MCI.

The signatories of the letter included former health secretaries Sujatha Rao and Naresh Dayal, historian and writer Ramchandra Guha, former governor of West Bengal Gopalkrishna Gandhi, N R Narayan Murthy of Infosys, Kiran Mazumdar of Biocon, Govind Rao, member of 14th finance commission and Dr Rama Baru of the Centre of Social Medicine and Community Health of JNU.
