Shyamal Sarkar to be next Information Commissioner?

Date:

New Delhi: Shyamal Sarkar presently serving as Secretary in Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) is believed to have taken a decisive lead in the keenly contested race for the lone vacant post of Information Commissioner.

Sources said  the Government had received more than 290 applications from serving and retired bureaucrats, of which six applications have been shortlisted for the final round.

It remains to be seen whether Shyamal Sarkar, an IAS officer of the 1979 batch from West Bengal cadre, manages to cross the finish line leaving other way behind.
