Gujarats first woman CM all set to take over

Date:

Gandhinagar: Chief Minister Narendra Modi will resign on Wednesday after addressing a special session of the state assembly. His revenue minister Anandiben Patel will replace him as the new chief minister.

Anandiben Patel, 72, will be Gujarat’s first woman chief minister. Modi heading to Delhi for his new job as Prime Minister has been Gujarat chief minister since 2001.

Anandiben is a non-controversial figure, who has stood by Modi for many years even before he took over as Gujarat chief minister. She is known for her administrative acumen and has handled portfolios as diverse as revenue, education and urban development.

Her biggest limitation, her colleagues say, is her lack of connect with the party’s grassroot-level workers and her inaccessibility.
