Flood gates of two dams caused Manali tragedy

Date:

Shimla: In a shocking revelation, it has come to light that waters from two dams were simultaneously discharged into Beas river, resulting in the death of 24 engineering college students and a tour guide.

The authorities had not only discharged water into Beas from Larji dam but also from the dam of Parvati Power Project.

“The water from Parvati Project was released first. This dam is located about 60 km from Larji dam, which was already full when water from the Parvati Project was discharged,” a Himachal Pradesh government official said.

The bodies of eight have been so far recovered, and 17 still to be traced.
