Spurs ink French forward Diaw to new deal

French forward Boris Diaw, an 11-year NBA veteran who helped the San Antonio Spurs capture their fifth NBA crown last month, has been re-signed, the Spurs announced Tuesday.

No terms of the deal were announced by the club but the deal reportedly will pay Diaw $22.5 million over three years.

Diaw joined the Spurs as a free agent in March of 2012 and produced his best season with the club this past campaign, averaging 9.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists over 79 games for San Antonio, connecting on 52.1 percent of his shots from the field and 40.2 percent from 3-point range.

In the NBA Finals, Diaw averaged 6.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 5.8 assists. In 23 playoff games during the title run, the Frenchman contributed 9.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists a game.

Diaw, 32, has averaged 7.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 174 games for the Spurs.

Originally taken by Atlanta with the 21st overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, Diaw also played for Phoenix and Charlotte before joining the Spurs.

Diaw, named the NBA’s Most Improved Player in 2006 while with Phoenix, has career averages of 9.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists over 834 NBA games.
