Australia Japan to play football friendly in Osaka

Date:

Australia and Japan will round out preparations for next year’s Asian Cup with a re-match of their 2011 final in November, Football Federation Australia said Thursday.

The friendly will take place in Osaka on November 18.

“I’m delighted we have been able to secure a match against Japan to finalise our preparations for the Asian Cup,” Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou said.

“Our aim is to become the best football nation in Asia and Japan is one of the nations we will have to overcome to achieve that goal.”

Japan edged Australia in the 2011 Asian Cup final 1-0 with a goal in extra-time.

The 2015 Asian Cup takes place in Australia in January.
