Flipkart pulls out expensive ad of Rs 32 lakh

Date:

New Delhi: When you think of a birthday gift for your friends, the easiest is of course to give a book. But, what if the book is worth a 2bhk flat? Yes, there exists something like that, according to Flipkart.

A book by Antonya Cin – Foretold – is apparently worth Rs 32,17,223. Oh wait, it was actually worth Rs 33,86,550, but Flipkart gave a discount of Rs 1 lakh.

The online retailer realised its gaffe and pulled off the page on Tuesday afternoon. But by then, the damage was done. It had become the butt of jokes online. Several reviewers wrote in to say how much they “loved” it.

“I found 32 lakhs under an old hat and didn’t know what to do with it, so got this book. Not disappointed,” wrote one reviewer.

“Had a big fight with the wife after I bought this book without discussing with her. However, once  I convinced her to give it a try, she too fell in love with the characters and the story line,” wrote another.

According to a reviewer who calls himself Wolf, it’s his first and last investment as he has sold his house and all his assets to buy the book. He jokingly shares the story of how he managed to collect the money for the book.

“When I first saw this book I was amazed at the beautiful cover. But then I saw its price and it was that which made me freaking crazy. The price made me speechless and I wondered how I can afford to buy it for months. But now I had to face the biggest challenge of collecting this much of money.”

“I sold my house and every asset but couldn’t collect the money. It was then that I decided to meet the only person on this planet who I think can help me. So I contacted Sir Rajnikanth and told him about this awesome book for which I sold my every asset…..”

“He writes all the banks refused to give them the loan to buy the book. And then, he had to go the Swiss bank to get some politicans’ black money to pay for the book.”

The Twitterrati, too, had a gala day. “Point to be noted, this book is on EMI, starting at Rs.1,55,993,” wrote Priyanka.

This is not the first time Flipkart has done such gaffe. In October, a resident of Dwarka ordered a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 from Flipkart. When the delivery boy came to deliver the product, the customer was shocked to discover a piece of rock inside the box.

Last month, Flipkart had raised the hackles of customers with its controversial Billion Day sale. Many were unable to access the site, others complained that the prices of some products were marked up and then marked down.
