Pune girl paints Assam Doodle on Nehru’s Birthday

Date:

Pune: Google has decided to put up a child’s imagination as their Doodle of the day as Google India celebrated the 125th birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

Vaidehi Reddy – an army school student from Pune – was chosen the Doodle 4 Google winner who painted the colourful and aesthetically rich state of Assam under the theme ‘A place in India I wish to Visit’.

The contest was held across 50 cities and 1700 schools in India. Google India shortlisted Vaidehi’s Doodle design from the 12 finalists as she beautifully illustrated Assam as the ‘Natural and Cultural Paradise’.

The Google Doodle highlights the rich fauna and flora of Assam – the tiger and one-horned rhinoceros to represent Assam’s wildlife, bamboo trees and a woman performing the bihu dance bringing to fore the culture of the Northeastern state and the tea bags for the famous Assam tea.

Google said it received an unprecedented one million entries for this year’s competition, which was divided in three categories – one for students in class 1 to 3, one for students in class 4 to 6 and the third for students in class 7 to 10.

The Doodle 4 Google competition was first launched in 2009.
