Prisoner beaten to death

Bhagalpur: A 50-year-old prisoner, who was beaten up allegedly by an inmate in a jail in Bhagalpur district, died at the Patna Medical College and Hospital, an official said on Thursday.
     
Latif Mian (50) succumbed to his injuries last night at the PMCH in the state capital where he was referred to after an inmate had attacked him with a piece of brick on Wednesday, District Magistrate Virendra Kumar Yadav said.
     
Yadav said that he had ordered a probe by the Sadar SDO and SDPO and the two officials were likely to submit their report to him by this evening.
     
Mian, serving life imprisonment in a murder case since 2002, was brought to the Bhagalpur central jail from Banka jail in 2008, a prison official said.
