10-day long Hornbill Festival ends

Kohima: The ‘Hornbill Festival’, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 1, concluded on Wednesday evening with 17 Naga tribes performing the ‘Unity Dance’ at the picturesque Naga Heritage village, Kisama some 12 km from the state capital.

Hornbill Festival, the annual tourism promotional event of the Government of Nagaland was on Wednesday formally declared closed by Nagaland Chief Minister T R Zeliang who also lighted the bon fire along with reigning Miss Nagaland Veineinem Singsong followed by the ‘Unity Dance’ of the 17 Naga tribes.

The 10-day-long festivities saw about 1,90,000 visitors, including foreign, domestic and local tourists thronging the mountainous terrain witnessing the performances of the 17 Naga tribes and also from the Northeastern region.

Thousands of visitors also joined the unity dance to the tune of the Naga yodelling and drum beats around the bon fire.

Besides, the traditional and cultural performances, the 10-day festival was also marked with various other activities, such as the Hornbill Rock Contest, Hornbill Motor Rally, Great Hornbill Adventure Trail, Choir Competition and Kohima Night Carnival.
