Second ad-wrapped Metro train ready to hit tracks

Date:

New Delhi: After a delay of about three weeks, the second externally ‘ad-wrapped’ Delhi Metro train is going to start operations this week.

The train is slated to run on Line 2, which connects North Delhi’s Jahangirpuri to Gurgaon’s Huda City Centre and is considered one of the busiest sections on the Metro network.

The ‘ad-wrapped’ train is in line with DMRC’s decision to induct 15 such trains initially to augment its non-operational revenues.

“The installation of the advertisement will be done tomorrow and the train shall start running on Line 2 this week itself,” said Praveen Gupta of Eg Communications, the ad agency to which Delhi Metro has outsourced the advertising space.

The first train with advertisements on its exteriors started running on the Dwarka-Vaishali route in the last week of November and the second one was scheduled to be on the tracks a a week later.

A DMRC spokesperson said that the exclusive advertising rights, valid for 10 years, have been given to two agencies that will pay an annual licence fee to the metro.

“Approximately 15 such trains will be inducted into service initially with seven trains on Line 2 (Jahangirpuri -HUDA City Centre) and eight trains on Line 3/4, which are the busiest lines of the Delhi Metro network,” said a DMRC spokesperson.

DMRC operates a fleet of over 200 trains at present with over 60 eight-coach trains and more than 80 six-coach trains whose interiors have already been made available for the purpose of advertising.
