Date:

Munger: A Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) force jawan was killed and another injured when suspected criminals opened fire on a SAP patrol party. The incident took place in a bogey of Farakka-Delhi Express in Bihar’s Munger district in the wee hours on Friday.

Rail Superintendent of Police, Jamalpur, Uma Shankar Singh said a SAP patrol party comprising two jawans entered the S-7 bogey of the train and questioned the three suspected criminals.

During the conversation, one of the suspects whipped out a country-made pistol and fired at the jawan Santosh Kumar from a close range resulting in his death on the spot in between Jamalpur and Dasrathpur section under Danapur Railway division of East Central Railway (ECR) zone, the SP said.

When the second SAP jawan Roop Narain Singh interfered, the youths fired at him also. The bullet hit a metallic object, probably a coin in his pocket, before hitting him leaving the jawan injured, the SP said.

The incident happened around 3am at a place nearly 70 km from the state capital.

The youths suspected of planning to commit dacoity in the train then pulled the chain and alighted near Dasarthpur station, the SP said.

The injured SAP jawan was admitted to a hospital in Lakhisarai, he said.

A case has been registered with Jamalpur rail police and a search is on for the killers, the SP said.
