New Delhi: US President Barack Obama’s reference to Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan in his speech at Siri Fort Auditorium in the capital caused a storm on twitter.
On Tuesday, Obama charmed everyone by quoting Khan’s famous line ‘Senorita, bade bade deshon mein…’ from the blockbuster movie ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ at the auditorium.
Khan responded by taking to micro-blogging site Twitter and tweeted, “Proud 2 b part of the gender & religion equality speech of Pres. Obama. Sad he couldn’t do the Bhangra…next time Chaiyya Chaiyya for sure.”
The US President in his 30 mins speech picked Indian icons like actor Shah Rukh Khan, Milkha Singh and Mary Kom and Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi to make a point–courage and humanitarian values unify both the nations.
“Every Indian should celebrate the success of Shah Rukh Khan, Mary Kom and Milkha Singh equally, not by colour of skin or worship,” Obama said, stressing on the importance of religious freedom in India.
Pleasantly surprised after Barack Obama took her name while talking about Indian achievers, celebrated Indian woman boxer M C Mary Kom on Tuesday said it felt proud to be acknowledged by the US President.
“I am thankful to him for mentioning my name. He acknowledged my performances over the years. It was surprising because he could have taken anybody’s name. I am feeling very proud,” the five-time world champion and the reigning Asian Games gold-medallist said.
“If I meet him ever, I will definitely thank him because it is very encouraging,” she added.
