Handheld Love

Date:

When we live in an era of technological advancements even our love life comes under its ambit. Love it or hate it, your smartphone devices have made ‘love’ a hand held activity. In a world like our, anything that’s begets love is appreciated, hence the market for these online dating apps are doing brisk business; most of these apps are available for free on Android and iOS platforms. Let’s look at few top ones.

Tinder, all you need is a Facebook account, and Tinder will upload your details to create a Tinder profile. You can then anonymously browse potential matches near you, swiping right or swiping left if you reject them.

Hinge, another app linked via Facebook the user logs in enters preferences, sexual orientation, location and age. The app connects the user with ‘friends of friend’. Every day it assists you with potential matches.

OkCupid, is an app is basically all the functions of their website in mobile form, including building your profile, checking out and rating other profiles, answering quizzes and chatting up potential dates. A welcome feature is the ability to upload photos from your phone directly to your profile.

Plenty of Fish, is one of the biggest dating sites that have transitioned to mobile. If someone who believes that dating is a numbers game then dive into the well-known ocean and see for yourself if there really is Plenty of Fish out there.

Tastebuds, this works on a simple formula that if you like the same music, then you is much more likely to get along with each other. The user enters their musical tastes and favorite artists and bands, and Tastebuds does the rest.

We often hear of how internet is responsible for the alienation and disconnect in modern society, but technology is also really good at bringing people together. On the sidelines of Valentine’s Day, NewsMobile spoke to the youth of the nations who have been using, knowing and probably propagating these apps, bringing to you their views, concerns and experience.

Ambica Gulati, who is a blogger and a food critic, said “It’s a great concept in function for people like me, who don’t have a valentine this valentine.”

Today in the society we live in, we have hit a social acceptance where it’s okay to have a dating app on your phone; however the concept is less romantic for many. Nikhil Sharda working with Convergys shared “I don’t understand how we have started using mobile applications to help navigate our love lives; while there are certain apps that focus more on matching two people with a shared location, than shared interests and the funnel gets narrower.”

Different people, different experience and from different walks of life, Manav Arya, a producer by profession shared “I used to use Tinder; the concept is amazingly simple, but people are using it in a variety of ways. I’ve met a few people on it, but mostly it’s an ego trip for girls, because the boy and girl ratio is too bad and since this depends on the girl liking you back and then only you can chat, which is fun.”

“Hook-up and meet-up apps will help you find the Right One… or the Right now; the concept is really good and it’s going to break up the taboo of arranged marriages. The privacy options on these apps are really good” strongly advocates Sameep Frank, a healthcare professional.

So if you are single or lonely, an app can really change the world for you, all you have to do is take a step and plunge. And it’s always wise to carry a note of precaution whenever you engage in using technology for instance, however we will like to believe that love even today is pure and will come out winning with flying colours.
